I know how to do the dyi acrylic part for it, but I need instructions on the plumbing part.
Chicks and plumbing don't normally mix unless someone shows us how to do it first... (sorry to the rest of the girls out there, but it is true in my case) ... I have ideas on how to do it, but I just have to make sure it gets done right the first time. I dont want to be part of the flood club. |

I once used a rubber maid container for a sump
You can build them simple or complex it just depends what you want your sump to do/hold.
My currant sump was built with acylic but a small glass tank would work well too. basically you want the water to come into one side via a overflow pipe. from there the water needs a bubble trap. basically 3 sections of glass fixed in place and spaced 1" apart. first one the water flows over second one is raised from the bottom of the tank to allow the water to flow under it and the last one the same as the first. this removes bubbles from the system. Now you need a section for your main pump and any heaters of skimmers your adding. this section will also be the area the water will evap from daily.
Keep everything lower than the top level of the tank in terms of any deviders. this way the sump will not spill over on the floor. To prevent any floods. make sure when filling the sump that you FIND OUT THE MAX HEIGHT OF WATER IT CAN HOLD. if power fails and you tank drains the water will raise the sumps level to a set point. make sure you find out that set point.
My DIY sump with fuge on the Right side. I placed the return pump (mag7) in the center section.

Pluming is 1/2" PVC with a flex section of hose used to connect the pump. this allows it to be cleaned or removed. it also helps with noise. keep it from touching the sump if you can.
Hope this helps you in some way. _________________ "All I need now is..." |
