i love the acro frags you have were r u getting them from i really want to get some my self!

Nebthet- 06-15-2009

Well I cannot make them keep to the schedule, but it gives me something to look forward to, like how a parent takes their child to the pediatrician and there are suppose to be landmarks for the child based on their age. But of course every child is different. But it is going to be some fun research for me to see how close they come to my determined schedule. oh, and I got the sps corals from fragalot.ca They still have a $10 special going on right now so I would suggest to buy from them that way because they seem to frag them when you order and then ship to you without allowing any healing time so you may lose one or two of them. Their shipping is $45 overnight Fedex for Ontario

Here are some more pic updates from today. The red mushies are nice and happy now. They finally attached themselves to a rock. The acro is doing great. This big hermit likes bugging my candycanes. Blasto is finally developing babies. My MGBTA has finally (i hope) selected a permanent home. Here is a sequence of pix showing me feeding my MGBTA silversides.NOM NOM NOM NOM.... And finally I got the set of blue LEDs in the mail today that I won on ebay. They make perfect moonlights and only cost me $35 Canadian, shipping included. They are made up of 4 connections of 3-led beam bulbs each and are waterproof. The Metallic Green BTA Frogspawn and Duncans The front tank shot. In person the leds do not look that bright, but the camera setting I use lets more light in. I had a closer up shot of the red mushies under the Leds, but it was too blurry, but the red really pops out under these too!!

Very cool. I can see the red in the lower right corner. They do look great under moonlights.

looking great keep up the good work!!

I'm kind of up in the air right now weather I'm selling my setup or not...but If I dont I will definitely want to set up some moonlights like yours! I have 3 in mine that are small, and only point in one spot each, but yours makes your whole tank look blue! Where did you get it? Is it a tube like a T5?

Nebthet- 06-29-2009

I got my moonlights on ebay actually. Really reasonable price and fast shipping. I got the 4 - 3 Blue LEDs with power supply. Cost me under $35 shipped. I positioned the lights over the top of the tank to highlight specific corals like my frogspawn, BTA, candycanes and zoas because they flourece more than the others. Got some new inhabitants today. First thing is the juvi picasso. They are grade B (right now), but have yet to develop their tail bar. My guy is just beginning his. I can't believe the difference in colour between the picasso and my Onyx. My Onyx are much more red by far. As for the baby Onyx. There is also a pic here of the larger one showing the mid-stripe from the bottom. Branching hammer frags behind the frogspawn. Octocoral frogspawn colony. This guy is really nice looking with the green tips. Dendro frag. The size of this guys heads put those of my sun coral to shame, but super awsome colour. The red mushies are getting larger and larger by day. I put the 3rd one over with the other two when I made room for the new LPS. Coco worm. He is in there, but just not used to having fish swimming around him as of yet. I hope he will come out and stay out after a couple of days.

Time for more updated pix: Finally got my SPS order in today. Not everything I recieved was what I ordered, but at least it looked healthy. If you can name any of these for me that I don't know, please do so.. thanks. unknown unknown Bali tri-color on the left same valida as before on the right. Neon Suharsonoi The same acros from the left side near rear of the tank. My baby onyx clowns. You can barely make out the white mid-bar starting on the smaller one. Yes, I tripled checked to ensure it just wasn't encrusted calcium I was seeing in the pic. Male picasso darkening up. Him and my female get along now and sleep together half the night. My poor Octo Frogspawn. :( It was accidentally dropped (not by me) when I went to pick it up and it resulted in brown jelly disease developing. I spent the last 3 days syphoning away the brown jelly to reduce spreading, and today I don't see anymore. Keeping my fingers crossed. Coco Worm being happy. Hammer is happy and so is the frogspawn.

Nice looking stuff you have in their. I too am getting into the SPS's, what lighting are you using for them?

Nebthet- 07-17-2009

I am using Tek T5 6 bulb fixture with 3 AquaBlue, 1 Fiji Purple, 1 Atcinic plus and 1 6500k, which gives it a nice balance between the blue, red and white spectrum.

Killa B- 07-18-2009

That's awesome! you should think about getting into the metal halides if you are getting into the SPSs though, they need a lot of light to get their true colours and flourish.

Nebthet- 07-18-2009

I have thought about metal halides, but they are just not my thing. After a lot of research, I went with the best comparable lighting system with fewer heating issues. In addition to that, the T5's give me better lighting design options while keeping all corals healthy, which I am more concerned about than the colour of the corals themselves. In the wild, SPS are not the bright colours we see in our tanks. So as long as they grow, have polyp extension and some colour, I am happy.

Killa B- 07-18-2009

alrighty, I switched from 8 4' t5's to 4 with 2 x 250watt halides. I don't think I could ever go back, never have heat issues either. You just have to have you lights set up right and heat is not an issue. I am getting a cm or more a month growth on some of my SPS's. I do agree to some extent that the SPS in the wild aren't as bright but those are the ones on low light reefs or deep water reefs. The shallow water/high light reefs usually have the bright corals. I think if you even tried adding the 150watt halide pendant Jim has you would be blown away by how much healthier and fuller everything looks, and yes they color up nice also!! either way if your happy then keep on what your doing, just giving you my experience I had with SPS's.

Nebthet- 07-28-2009

I have some new pics now to add. This acro is continuing to encrust over the dead portions. I don't know what type it is, but when the actinics or moonlights are on the polyps glow green. This acro, which I am thinking is a tri-color valida or Cali Tort (other side has green flourescents). It is slowly deepening its' purple colouring. Right tank shot from today. My BTA is happy, Octo frog extended out again and on the mend. The hammer and branching frogspawn are happy, and the red mushies are doing well. I also moved a set of candy canes over to this side of the tank as there is a little less flow there. Here is my larger baby clownfish Omen. As you can see his mid-bar is coming in nicely and is surrounded by black. It appears even on both sides and I am hoping it doesn't misbar. Also, the black around the head-bar is thicker. My smaller baby clown, Runt is slowly developing his mid-bar. As you can see now, it is larger than a pin head and developing on both sides. Here are all 4 of my clowns so you can see the size difference. Omen is now at the size where I could release him into the main tank if I wanted to, but I'm not..... yet. I am arranging to set up a 25g reef flats tank and will be putting the Picasso and Runt in there. Finally, my FTS for today.
