My 55
See if that works...

jimskoi- 10-29-2007

Lookin good!

jhull_73- 10-30-2007

looks good. How long has it been running? I can't be sure from the pic but it looks like you may have elephant ear mushrooms, have they eaten any fish? Some more info on your tank would be nice... lighting, sump ect. I have tried a 55 in the past but found it tricky to aquascape. 12" is not much to work with. Did you epoxy the LR inplace? James

Which mushrooms are you talking about.. I believe there are only two kinds in there, the ones on the bottom and the ones on the top. Neither have ever eaten any fish and both kinds have various fish using them as homes.

jimskoi- 10-30-2007

I think he is referring to the ones on the top left. They are hairy right?

skyjumper- 10-30-2007

yep.. those are the hairy ones I believe. The ones in this tank are home to a Percula clown and the blue damsel and are frequented by the goby as well and have never eaten or killed anything as far as I know. We have bigger ones in our other tank. This tank has an Orbits system (sp) VHO pc 2X65W10000K day and 2X65W 100000k blue, no sump... 1 power head, protein skimmer, and canister filter.. not sure of the type right now. Those mushrooms grow crazy though... splitting all the time..

that'd be 10000K not 100000K ;)

.
I see what you mean by "mushroom factory"!

skyjumper- 10-30-2007

And that one isn't too bad.. we have LOTS in the other tank ;)

jhull_73- 10-31-2007

From what I've been told an elephant ear is a kind of hairy mushroom. I ask B/C the ones I got from Jim are similar. From a pic My brother posted on ovas someone said it was an EE. I have never seen mine even remotly interested in fish, nor his. That being said mine have eaten frozen mysis. they ball up around their mouth. looking a lot like an onion. James

jimskoi- 10-31-2007

James, I thought you those mushrooms died instead of splitting?

jhull_73- 10-31-2007

A bunch did die, the remaining pieces healed and are growing back. I have a bunch of lopsided mushies, there about half the size they were when I got them. I split the rock with my brother. They seem to be very sensitive to air exposure. IME
